Anoka County Multi-Jurisdictional <br />All Hazards Mitigation Plan <br /> 67 <br /> <br />The Anoka County Traveler, sponsored by Anoka County, provides pre-scheduled door-to-door <br />transportation in northern Anoka County, including the City of East Bethel. There are no major <br />medical facilities in East Bethel. Commercial development in East Bethel has been concentrated <br />along the Highway 65 corridor. The commercial activity that dominates Highway 65 is primarily <br />service commercial and public/institutional uses. Connexus Energy provides electrical service. <br />Reliant Energy or Excel Energy provides gas service. Century Link or Frontier provides hard- <br />wired telephone service. US Cable provides Cable TV service. Four private companies provide <br />garbage service to the community. <br /> <br />Fridley <br />The City of Fridley is conveniently located in the Twin Cities Metropolitan Region approximately <br />5 miles north of downtown Minneapolis and 10 miles northwest of downtown St. Paul. <br /> <br />Interstate 694 runs east/west in the southern area of the city. Two State Highways run through <br />the City of Fridley, State Hwy 65 and State Hwy 47, as well as numerous county roads and <br />municipal state aid roadways. Burlington Northern Santa Fe Rail Yard is located in the southern <br />part of Fridley and the railroad runs north/south throughout the city. <br /> <br />The City of Fridley is served by four school districts, which include 4 public elementary schools, <br />Woodcrest Elementary, Stevenson Elementary, Hayes Elementary, and North Park Elementary. <br />There is also the Fridley Middle School and Fridley High School as well as “FLIP,” an alternative <br />learning center. In addition to the public schools, there are several private schools located <br />within the city. Al-Amal is a private Islamic school. Woodcrest Baptist School and Totino Grace <br />High School also privately serve residents of Fridley and the surrounding communities. Unity <br />Hospital and numerous other medical clinics are located in Fridley and provide medical services <br />to its residents. Connexus Energy and Xcel Energy provide the areas electrical needs and <br />CenterPoint Energy provides natural gas service. <br /> <br />Fridley has a strong park system offering areas for active and passive recreation. The existing <br />park system consists of land owned by the city, four different school districts, as well as Anoka <br />County, provide residents over 727 acres of park and open space areas and miles of paved <br />trails. Springbrook Nature Center, Innsbruck Nature Center, as well as the Anoka County <br />owned Riverfront Park, Locke Lake Regional Park, and Islands of Peace Park on the Mississippi <br />River provide large open spaces for residents to picnic, hike, and fish. <br /> <br />Ham Lake <br />There is one K-5 school, (McKinley Elementary), Two childcare facilities, two chiropractic clinics, <br />a mental health clinic, and two dental facilities. As a part of the public health program, the City <br />provides (through Anoka County) a low cost program for well testing. <br /> <br />CenterPoint and Xcel Energy provide natural gas. Connexus Energy provides electricity. <br />Qwest and Comcast provide telephone service and Comcast provides cable. There are sox <br />cellular phone towers in the City at this time. <br /> <br />All homes/businesses have their own private wells and on-site sewer systems, except for <br />Flamingo Terrace Mobile Home Park, which has one shared system. <br /> <br />Police protection is provided by contract with the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office and Ham Lake <br />Volunteer Fire Department consisting of approximately 37 members provides fire protection. <br />The Fire Department currently has two stations, with plans for a third. At its completion, all <br />residents will be within a five-mile radius of a fire station, thereby meeting ISO requirements. In
