SPECIAL WORK SESSION July 13, 2009
APPROVED
1
2 CITY OF LINO LAKES
■ _ 3 MINUTES
4 SPECIAL WORK SESSION
5
6 DATE : July 13,2009
7 TIME STARTED : 6:05 p.m.
8 TIME ENDED : 6:30 p.m.
9 MEMBERS PRESENT : Council Members Reinert, Stoltz,
10 Gallup, O'Donnell and Mayor Bergeson
11 MEMBERS ABSENT : none
12
13 Staff present: Acting City Administrator, Dan Tesch; Director of Finance, Al Rolek;
14 Director of Public Safety, Dave Pecchia; City Engineer, Jim Studenski; City Clerk, Julie
15 Bartell
16
17 Mayor Bergeson called the meeting to order at 6:05 p.m. in the Council Workroom at
18 Lino Lakes City Hall.
19
20 City Administrator Position—The mayor remarked that this meeting was called to
21 discuss how the council intends to move ahead on the vacant city administrator position.
22
23 Administrator Tesch updated the council on hiring process. The deadline for applications
24 has come and gone and consultant Harry Brull has narrowed the 36 applicants down to 6
' 25 or 7. If the council is to delay the process, there is some concern about how that could
26 impact the pool. The process could be moved forward just to the point of notifying those
27 not in the final pool and notifying the finalists that the process will be delayed.
28
29 Finance Director Rolek explained the approximate financial impact of not filling the
30 position. The budget has already been adjusted to reflect a vacancy for six months.
31
32 A council member suggested that part of the decision is what council will make the
33 selection—the council of 2009 or 2010. The current council may be better suited to find
34 a person with a good fit given its collective experience.
35
36 A council member suggested that it makes sense to have more budget discussion before
37 moving on the position and Finance Director Rolek noted that the first budget discussion
38 will be August 10. With that schedule in mind, a member suggested that the council take
39 up the hiring process in September and October; that wouldn't be much different from the
40 originally planned hiring schedule but would allow for budget considerations prior to
41 hiring.
42
43 The council requested that staff provide a timeline for the process.
44
1
