PROGRAMMING: <br />For adults, Warner NC offers Woodcocks and Wine program. Wild Edible/food related programming is <br />popular with adults. For Three Rivers, the educational Farm is popular; there are wait lists to get into <br />the farm. <br />Three Rivers has new Log Rolling and Slacklining program <br />WHAT IS GOOD ABOUT WARGO? <br />Access to Rice Creek/ Rice Creek Watershed and to the Mississippi -22 miles <br />Canoe, Kayak, and paddle board rentals are successful and distinctive. Warner NC's advanced canoeist <br />program comes to Rice Creek to canoe in a natural and more advanced setting. Wargo's recreation and <br />nature center combination is unique Wargo is great for birding-upland, wetland, and shorebirds. <br />Interest in birding recently has increased. They currenty offer 'feeder watch' and 'phrenology' programs <br />for birding. Other wildlife is also great -turkeys, deer, otter, etc. Overall, the natural setting is great, and <br />the tie with camping is unique. The entry sequence is very peaceful and welcoming, and well developed <br />like a state trail, and the length is nice, relaxing, and paved. Can get 600-800 visitors here for events. <br />Many panel members said they loved the wildlife mounts in the building. The smartboard is nice. <br />WHAT WOULD MAKE WARGO BETTER? <br />#1 Build on the Lakes & Water Niche. Put it all together by improving connectivity. Make it 'triathalon- <br />friendly' <br />Conservation activities (hunting & fishing) <br />Compost area is a question mark -what is it and why is it <br />Advertise more to Washington County <br />Need a big Welcome sign on 14 <br />Add ADA accessible bird blind (mobility mats) <br />An elevated platform for bird watching that can accommodate about 20 students <br />Heritage Site lacks infrastructure <br />• No shelter <br />• Only port -a -potties <br />• Has hand pump for water (should get an electric pump) <br />• It is in the 100 year floodplain so permanent structures are not -allowed by the city of Lino Lakes <br />• Lean-to is an eyesore <br />Wayfinding improvements <br />Enhance the entry experience <br />A library collaboration with Anoka County <br />Hide some of the clutter when you enter -make it more about nature <br />Consider the aging population <br />ADA accessibility overall-eg. nature trails, bird platform, boardwalk, boats, dock <br />Boat launch for the voyager canoe <br />Wargo Nature Center Master Plan — March 27, 2014 Focus Group Meetings Summary Page 14 <br />A 12 Appendix: Meetings & Outreach <br />
