l� 'D CITY OF IN KIE DATE : July 10, 2017 TO : Park Board Members FROM : Rick DeGardner, Public Services Director RE : Review Removal of Arena Acres Tennis Courts The poor condition of the tennis courts at Arena Acres has been an issue for several years ( see attached photos ) . The attached memo was sent to area residents last month informing them of the decision to close the courts . Some residents have expressed concerns of removing the tennis courts . For example , the Mayor and City Councilmembers received the following email : On Tue, Jun 20, 2017 at 2 :25 PM, Erika Weymann wrote : Good Afternoon Mayor and Council Members, My name is Erika Weymann and I live near the tennis court and park off of Wood Duck Trail and Andall Street (Areana Acres Park) . I recently received a letter in the , mail explaining that the tennis courts will be removed and the area will be an open space in the very near future. 1 have concerns regarding the removal of the tennis courts . My daughter recently showed an interest in playing tennis (now that she is old enough to play and understand the concept of tennis) and it has been fun for us to walk to the end of our street and play for a little bit each night. We started playing this spring and when we returned from our family vacation recently, we were very shocked that the nets had been removed (this was prior to receiving the letter on June 9) . My daughter asked me why the nets have been removed and started crying. 1 know that this tennis court is used on a regular basis by many individuals in the neighborhood. 1 also know that there are younger children in the neighborhood that are up and coming and interested in using the courts as well. 1 am wondering why this cannot be repaired and/or patched (assuming patching is cheaper than replacing). How are the cracks unsafe ? Why has it been neglected in the first place ? There are no other courts within the city limits of Lino Lakes (other than at Centennial Middle School, which 1 assume are maintained by the school/school funds) . Our neighborhood doesn 't need an open field. We have property of our own (along with all the others in the neighborhood) and enjoy having the park and tennis courts within walking distance.
