CITY OF LINO LAKES <br />RESOLUTION NO. 16-16 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION TO ADOPT THE ENVIRONMENTAL <br />BOARD GOALS FOR 2016 <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of Lino Lakes has an established Environmental Board; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the purpose of the Environmental Board is to provide aid and advice to the <br />council in its efforts to encourage productive and enjoyable harmony between people and their <br />environment; to promote efforts which will prevent or eliminate damage to the environment <br />and stimulate the health and welfare of people; to enrich the understanding of ecological <br />systems and natural resources important to the city; to advise the City in the use and <br />management of its natural resources in order to preserve and enhance the environmental <br />amenities for present and future residents, and to ensure a lasting quality of life within the city; <br />and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Environmental Board approved the following 2015 goals at their January 27, <br />2016 meeting: <br /> <br />2016 Goals Environmental Goals <br /> <br />1. Promoting Environmental Stewardship with the citizens of Lino Lakes, and <br />conservation opportunities by communicating environmental initiatives in the city using <br />various means of communication such as: <br /> <br />• Mailings. <br />• Multi-media including social media. <br />• School “enviro- shows”, promotion in schools. <br />• Partnerships with our two watershed districts. <br /> <br />2. Participate in Earth Day (April 23rd, 2016) <br /> <br />3. Participate in Blue Heron Days (August 20, 2016) <br /> <br />4. Recycling/Partner with Anoka County Recycling Resource Solutions to: <br /> <br />• Utilize County Select Committee on Recycling (SCORE) and Local <br />Recycling Development Grant (LRDG) Funds to the maximum extent <br />possible to increase our recycling totals. <br />• Work with local participating businesses on mandated business recycling <br />through Anoka County and “Waste-Wise” staff. <br />• Partner with our neighborhood groups to educate and start pilot projects to <br />recycle organics. <br />• Increase our volunteer base. <br />• Increase services available to residents at the monthly Recycling Day event <br />including additional paper shredding, events, hard drive destruction and the <br />Bridging program and or other charity organizations. <br />• To meet or exceed our City recycling goal of 50 (1836 tons) percent or
