Public Safety Update – Director Swenson reviewed his presentation: 273 <br />- Reiteration of the department’s mission; 274 <br />- Statistics for the 1st Quarter of 2017, including emergency response times and 275 <br />medical calls for service and who responded. 276 <br />- Fire division total calls; 277 <br />- Mutual aid given; 278 <br />- Criminal offenses by category; 279 <br />- Arrest data; 280 <br />- Felony case submissions. 281 <br /> 282 <br />Director Swenson also reviewed HeartSafe training that has been provided in city hall and 283 <br />out, as well as fire training and CERT training. The department is also in the process of 284 <br />expanding the fire prevention program, continuing car seat training, and smoke detector 285 <br />distribution through a grant. There is also research underway on body cameras. They 286 <br />will be reinstituting the citizens’ academy and will continue training officers in crisis 287 <br />intervention (nine trained already). 288 <br /> 289 <br />Regarding the department’s upcoming volunteer recognition event, the council is 290 <br />encouraged to attend and will receive a reminder invitation. 291 <br /> 292 <br />6. This would be the final addition of eight new lots.
