DRAFT May 7, 2018 Page 2 Recommendations for City Council • Replace Sunrise Park equipment -$95,000 • Replace Birch Park equipment - $90,000 ($30,000 funding budget, $60,000 from Saddle Club). • Lake Drive - $75,000 • Apollo Drive - $115,000 • Arena Acres Park Development - $75,000 • Lilac Street Trail – $110,000 Park Board Comments: • Pat Huelman shared his proposal with the group (Lake Trail Drive, Stage Coach, Apollo Drive moving toward Lilac, Sunrise Park, Birch Park, and look into the removal of the tennis courts at Green Acres). • Clark Gooder asked what funds would be needed to get from Lilac to Palomino and was informed it would take $210,000. • Clark Gooder spoke about putting in posts for pickle ball in the hockey rink, however it was determined that Birch Park is too small and that they could ask the middle school to paint for pickle ball in their current courts. • Rick DeGardner mentioned to Park Board Members that the Mayor and City Council is interested in Phase 1 development so they could put in pickle ball court there. • Pat Huelman mentions to the committee that they should table the hard surfaces for Sunrise and Birch • Andrew Levi inquired about what would happen to any excess money that might be left over from the projects, where does it go? • Rick DeGardner stated that any excess money left over from projects would be placed back into the park funds. • Clark Gooder raised a concern about extending the trail and not finishing it. He stated he is worried that the community would question why only part of the trail was done and what benefit only part of the trail served. • Pat Huelman and Rick DeGardner both spoke to Clark Gooder’s concern stating that extending the trail to 4th street would get people passed the “danger zone” and more access to businesses. • Pat Huelman also mentioned that he like the idea of getting the trail paved to at least 4th street as this would put some pressure on the 2019 Park Board Committee to finish the project. • Richard Jensen asked if it would be hard to find contractors who would be willing to just pave ½ a trail rather than getting the full bid for the whole trail. • Rick DeGardner stated that it would take $210,000 to complete the trail and that they can find contractors who would just do half a trail.
