The Function of the Hoard of Adjustment <br />a. A Board of Adjustment and Appeals (when referring to a city/township) is <br />mandatory when official controls have been adopted. Minn. Stat. § 462.354. <br />b. The basic functions of the Board of Adjustment are: <br />i. To hear and decide variances; and <br />ii To hear and decide appeals from orders and decisions of the zoning <br />Administrator. <br />3. The Planning Commission <br />a. The basic functions of the planning commission are: <br />i. To assist the City Council in its decision-making process; <br />ii. To collect pertinent data on permit applications and proposed <br />changes/additions to official controls; and <br />iii. To review proposed zoning amendments. <br />4. The City Council <br />a. In most cases, the City Council is the final decision-making body on zoning <br />matters. <br />
