Birch Street Improvement - Community Development Director Grochala <br />introduced the subject matter and Jason Orcutt, Anoka County Engineering, who <br />reviewed a Power Point presentation outlining the following: <br />- Overlay is part of the project for the coming spring and summer; <br />- Anoka County 2011 corridor study that included lots of public input; this project <br />uses key issues and identified opportunities from that study; <br />- Design goals (safety, mobility, coordination with elementary school); <br />- Study recommendations (general corridor -wide recommendations); <br />- Reviewed previous study looking for opportunities to improve; <br />- Coordination will include with City, public and school district; <br />- Roundabouts have become more design popular (some similar sites reviewed); <br />- Preliminary layout (this is very beginning of stage; there is much review ahead <br />planned); <br />Mayor Reinert asked for traffic safety data from areas where roundabouts have been <br />installed; Mr. Orcutt explained that data would generally indicate less severity. <br />Mayor Reinert clarified that the plans show a divided roadway; Mr. Orcutt concurred but <br />added that there isn't sufficient room for a four -lane divided roadway. There was <br />discussion about left turn lanes versus right side passing lanes. Director Grochala said <br />there should be consideration of the number of homes served by certain streets and <br />perhaps left and right turn lanes are merited. <br />Council Member Rafferty asked if curb and gutter would be considered as part of the <br />1 <br />
