Birch Street Improvement - Community Development Director Grochala <br />17 introduced the subject matter and Jason Orcutt, Anoka County Engineering, who <br />18 reviewed a Power Point presentation outlining the following: <br />19 Overlay is part of the project for the coming spring and summer; <br />20 Anoka County 2011 corridor study that included lots of public input; this project <br />21 uses key issues and identified opportunities from that study; <br />22 Design goals (safety, mobility, coordination with elementary school); <br />23 Study recommendations (general corridor -wide recommendations); <br />24 Reviewed previous study looking for opportunities to improve; <br />25 - Coordination will include with City, public and school district; <br />26 Roundabouts have become more design popular (some similar sites reviewed); <br />27 Preliminary layout (this is very beginning of stage; there is much review ahead <br />28 planned); <br />29 Mayor Reinert asked for traffic safety data from areas where roundabouts have been <br />30 installed; Mr. Orcutt explained that data would generally indicate less severity. <br />31 Mayor Reinert clarified that the plans show a divided roadway; Mr. Orcutt concurred but <br />32 added that there isn't sufficient room for a four -lane divided roadway. There was <br />33 discussion about left turn lanes versus right side passing lanes. Director Grochala said <br />34 there should be consideration of the number of homes served by certain streets and <br />35 perhaps left and right turn lanes are merited. <br />36 <br />37 Council Member Rafferty asked if curb and gutter would be considered as part of the <br />1 <br />
