CITY COUNCIL <br />AGENDA ITEM 6G <br /> <br /> <br />STAFF ORIGINATOR: Diane Hankee, City Engineer <br /> <br />MEETING DATE: October 22, 2018 <br /> <br />TOPIC: Consider Resolution No. 18-138, Authorizing <br />Preparation of Plans and Specifications, 2019 Water <br />Tower No. 3 and Site Grading <br /> <br />VOTE REQUIRED: Simple Majority <br /> <br /> <br />INTRODUCTION <br /> <br />Staff is requesting council authorization to prepare plans and specifications for the 2019 Water <br />Tower No. 3 and Site Grading Project. <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br /> <br />The City preformed a water system evaluation in 2017 in accordance with the American Water <br />Works Association standards. The study identified the need for a 1.5 million gallons (MG) Water <br />Tower. The need for additional water storage was also identified in the City’s 2030 <br />Comprehensive Plan. Multiple sites for the future Water Tower No. 3 were evaluated. The <br />recommended site is the Birch Street and Centerville Road (City Property) site. <br /> <br />The tower will be a composite style elevated water tower with a storage capacity of 1.5 MG. The <br />project will include grading of City Property to balance the overall site in coordination with the Parks <br />Department plan. The total project cost for the water tower is estimated to be $4,494,350.00. The <br />project would be funded through the City’s trunk utility fund. <br /> <br />The project would begin construction in May of 2019 and proceed into 2020 with Water Tower <br />No. 3 being in service July 31, 2020. <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATION <br /> <br />Staff is recommending approval of Resolution No. 18-138 authorizing preparation of plans and <br />specifications in the amount of $98,904.00. <br /> <br />ATTACHMENTS <br /> <br />1.
