CITY COUNCIL <br />AGENDA ITEM 3F <br /> <br /> <br />STAFF ORIGINATOR: Karissa Bartholomew, Human Resources Manager <br /> <br />MEETING DATE: November 13, 2018 <br /> <br />TOPIC: Appointment of Utilities Maintenance Worker <br /> <br />VOTE REQUIRED: 3/5 <br /> <br /> <br />INTRODUCTION <br /> <br />The Council is being asked to approve the appointment of Layne Chapman for the Utilities <br />Maintenance Worker position in the Public Services Department. <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br /> <br />Staff has recommended the promotion of Utilities Maintenance Worker Williams to the Utilities <br />Supervisor position, which would create a vacancy within the department. In anticipation of this <br />potential vacancy, staff went through the recruitment process for a Utilities Maintenance Worker <br />positon. At this time, staff has completed the recruitment process, provided a conditional offer, <br />and is recommending approval of Mr. Layne Chapman for the Utilities Maintenance Worker <br />position. <br /> <br />Chapman has worked with the City as a Seasonal Utilities Maintenance Worker since 2016, and <br />comes highly recommended. Chapman has experience in all required areas of the Utilities <br />Department and is working towards obtaining his water / sewer licenses. <br /> <br />The hourly rate of pay would be $25.12, which is step 2 of the union contract. With the <br />Council’s approval, Mr. Chapman would begin employment with the City following November <br />14, 2018. <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATION <br /> <br />Approve the appointment of Layne Chapman for the Utilities Maintenance Worker position. <br />
