5/29/2019 3

Introduction

Environmental planning, resource management, and the establishment of the Environmental
Coordinator position were an outgrowth of the Community 20/20 Vision Plan completed in
1995. The vison established with the plan was:

The Environmental Vision is for the sustenance of the natural environment of Lino Lakes
through the protection and management of the wildlife, habitats, and other natural resources,
and to pass on to future residents a community still rich in these resources. Future development
is to include equal consideration of economic development and environmental protection issues.

Key recommendations of the plan included:

1) Establishment of an Environmental Advisory Board and Environmental staff position
to provide representation for environmental issues within City management.
2) Prepare a master plan for sustaining the environmental assets in our community
3) Review and revise City natural resource protection performance standards

The following chapters represent an overview of the work that has been done since 1995 to carry
out the vision, including review of the key environmental studies completed to date, deification
of unique Natural Resource opportunities and threat assessment, explanation of the core
functions of the Environmental Service division, and current operation procedures necessary to
implement the plans and policies of the City.

This document is intended to serve as both a resource and guide to environmental activities
within the City. It should be updated as operations expand or adapt to changing environmental
factors.
