The suspension bushings and rear frame are showing the same issues as on Vehicle #231.
History & Replacement:
Back in 2015, the City purchased a GMC Sierra 1500 for the Environmental Department (#803). Vehicle #803
was designed and ordered to meet the needs of the Environmental Department. AŌer only a short amount
of Ɵme it was decided that, giving the Environmental Department a brand new truck was not necessary.
Their job requires a large amount of driving off-road and in difficult terrain, which caused a lot of damage to
Vehicle #803 within a short period of Ɵme. We then came up with a policy that the Environmental Depart-
ment would only receive used vehicles due to the nature of their job and the type of driving that they have to
perform. In 2020, Vehicle #803 will be five years old and would make an excellent truck for the Environmen-
tal Department. It was designed originally to be in that department and it is now old enough where we feel
comfortable allowing it to drive off-road. Vehicle #803 is in excellent condiƟon. A new Environmental Coordi-
nator will be hired in the near future and now would be a good Ɵme to transiƟon the department into a new-
er vehicle.

Vehicle #803 is currently being used by the Fleet Department. The Fleet Department would transfer the
truck to the Environmental Department and order a replacement fleet truck that is more useful for the types
of tasks that they encounter on a daily basis. The Fleet Department would like to replace Vehicle #803 with a
larger truck (GMC Sierra 2500). This larger truck would enable them to plow with their vehicle, tow broken
equipment back to the shop, and tow equipment to other locaƟons for contracted repairs. A larger vehicle
would also beƩer assist them in pulling out City vehicles that are stuck (snow, mud, swamp, etc.). This larger
truck would also offer a lot more interior space for tool storage. The Fleet Department would be able to car-
ry many more tools, tow straps, jumper cables, and parts necessary for making small repairs out in the field.
Being able to carry these addiƟonal tools inside the truck would reduce trips back to the shop to get the tools
necessary to repair a vehicle or piece of equipment out in the field.
99
