#388

#388 is a Ford Police Interceptor (Utility) that was built in January of 2013. It is used as a patrol vehicle
by the Public Safety Department. It is well over the 5 year minimum for police vehicles and it will be over 7
years old by the time a replacement vehicle would arrive to replace it next year. It currently has 100,272
miles. I wouldn’t call #388 a “lemon” but it has always been a thorn in our sides since it was new. For some
reason #388 seems to have issues much more often than the rest of the police SUV’s. While #388 does not
have as severe of rust on the steering & suspension components as #383, it also adds in the issue of cosmetic
rust. The bottom lip of the rear tailgate is starting to get pretty rusty and the paint around the keyhole on the
tailgate is coming off and starting to rust. These are both very common issues that seem to be happening to
all of our older police and fire SUV’s. We will have to come up with a long term plan on dealing with these
tailgate rust issues in the very near future (See pages 8-10). #388 also has a variety of worn bushings on the
steering and suspension componenets that are in need of replacement. It has a leaking air conditioning hose
that should also be replaced. I would recommend replacement of #388 for the 2020 budget year. It will likely
have in excess of 115,000 miles by the time it is replaced next year. #388 would be my second priority for
replacement in the police fleet.

82
