I agree that several of our 18 neighborhood parks ( including Sunset Oaks Park ) are in need of many upgrades , including playground equipment . Historically, the City has not utilized general fund dollars ( taxes ) for park improvements . This changed recently in 2018 with the City Council designating funding for parks and trails improvements . As a result, new playground equipment was installed at Birch Park in 2018 . In 2019, new playground equipment was installed at Sunrise Park, a tennis court replaced at Arena Acres Park, and a trail was constructed along Lake Drive near City Hall . In the Fall , a trail will be constructed along Apollo Drive between Lake Drive and Lilac Street . Even with the recent improvement projects , our existing parks system needs a lot of attention . I attached a pdf . file summarizing our existing playground equipment . With 11 playground structures 20 + years old , I am hopeful the City Council continues to provide funding for park improvements . As funding becomes available , the Park Board will take into consideration the needs of our entire parks and trails system and provide recommendations to the City Council . I will forward your email to all Park Board members . As always , residents have the ability to communicate with their elected officials on what they think should be priorities for the City .
