VLAWMO began the Citizens Lake Monitoring Program (CLMP) in 1997 to monitor several lakes and ponds within <br />the watershed that were identified as having local significance. CLMP volunteers collect samples from 9 water bodies: <br />Amelia Lake, Birch Lake, Gem Lake, Gilfillan Lake, Gilfillan Pond, Goose Lake East, Goose Lake West, Tamarack <br />Lake, and Wilkinson Lake. These lakes are all shallow with depths no greater than 9 feet. Five areas along Lambert <br />Creek are also sampled as part of the Organization's mission to protect and improve the water -related environment. <br />The data received from the monitoring is used by the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) to determine the <br />health of the state's waters. <br />Figure 2 Sites Monitored by VLAWMO <br />Impaired Water Designations <br />The watershed has had several water bodies listed on the MPCA 303(d) list for Impaired Waters recently. The <br />SPRWS Chain of Lakes (Pleasant, Sucker and Vadnais Lakes) have all been listed for nutrient pollution, specifically <br />mercury. It was also revealed this year that the lakes have been infested with zebra mussels though this not a <br />condition of the Impaired Waters listing.
