CITY COUNCIL
AGENDA ITEM 3B

STAFF ORIGINATOR: Jeff Karlson, City Administrator

MEETING DATE: March 11, 2019

TOPIC: 1st Reading of Ordinance Amending Chapter 205

VOTE REQUIRED: 3/5

INTRODUCTION

The City Council is being asked to consider the 1st Reading of Ordinance No. 3-19, Amending
Chapter 205 of the Lino Lakes City Code regarding the City Administrator position.

BACKGROUND

Chapter 205 of the City Code currently includes language that exempts the Public Safety
Director as a direct report to the City Administrator, which is not the current practice.

Section 207.01 of Chapter 207 states the “City Council shall make every appointment of a
‘regular’ position of city employment.” “Regular” generally means regular full-time and part-
time employees. To be consistent with this section, staff is proposing that Section 205.04
exclude “temporary” employees from needing Council authorization for hiring purposes.

RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends approval of 1st Reading of Ordinance No. 205.

ATTACHMENTS

Ordinance No. 3-19
