CITY OF LINO LAKES <br />RESOLUTION NO. 19-83 <br /> <br />APPROVING CENTURYLINK SETTLEMENT AGREEMENT <br /> <br /> <br />WHEREAS, CenturyLink has announced its intent to exit the cable business due to a significant <br />decrease in the number of cable subscribers; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, CenturyLink has stopped actively selling, marketing, and investing in its cable <br />service product for more than a year; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, there has been a significant decrease in the number of cable subscribers over this <br />time; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, CenturyLink agrees that its cable franchise will terminate upon the expiration of <br />the initial term of the franchise; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, CenturyLink will provide notice to its subscribers with information on how to <br />replace their cable service; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, CenturyLink waives all cable franchise renewal rights; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, this agreement avoids an expensive compliance process that would have little <br />benefit to subscribers; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the North Metro Telecommunications Commission (NMTC) approved the <br />Settlement Agreement at their May 15, 2019 meeting. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Lino Lakes <br />approves the Settlement Agreement between the NMTV and Qwest Broadband Services, Inc. <br />d/b/a CenturyLink. <br /> <br />Adopted by the Council of the City of Lino Lakes this 8th day of July 2019. <br /> <br />The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was introduced by Council Member <br />_______________and was duly seconded by Council Member ________________ and upon <br />vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof: <br /> <br />The following voted against same: <br /> <br /> <br />_______________________________ <br />Jeff Reinert, Mayor <br /> <br />ATTEST: <br /> <br />________________________ <br />Julianne Bartell, City Clerk
