CITY OF LINO LAKES <br />RESOLUTION NO. 19-96 <br />AFFIRMING THE RECITING OF PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE <br />AT CITY COUNCIL AND CITY BOARD MEETINGS <br />WHEREAS, the Pledge of Allegiance to the United States flag was written in 1892 and formally <br />adopted by Congress as the pledge in 1942; and <br />WHEREAS, the Pledge of Allegiance is an oath of loyalty to the Republic of the United States <br />of America; and <br />WHEREAS, a city council in Minnesota recently came under fire for removing the Pledge of <br />Allegiance from the beginning of their meetings, and then reversed its decision after it sparked <br />protests and criticism from people opposing the decision; and <br />WHEREAS, the Lino Lakes City Council wishes to affirm its strong support for reciting the <br />Pledge of Allegiance prior to the start of all regular City Council and City Board meetings. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Lino Lakes City Council hereby <br />establishes that the current version of the Pledge of Allegiance be recited prior to every regular <br />City Council or City Board meeting, as follows: “I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United <br />States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, <br />with liberty and justice for all.” <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that anyone in attendance during the Pledge should stand if <br />physically able to do so. <br />Adopted by the Lino Lakes City Council this 12th day of August 2019. <br />The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was introduced by Council Member <br />_______________and was duly seconded by Council Member ________________ and upon <br />vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof: <br />The following voted against same: <br />_______________________________ <br />Jeff Reinert, Mayor <br />ATTEST: <br />________________________________ <br />Julianne Bartell, City Clerk
