Wedel, City Engineer MEETING DATE:May 13, 2012 TOPIC:Consider ResolutionNo. 13-113Approving Change Order No. 1, 2013 Surface Water Management Project VOTE REQUIRED:3/5 Vote Required BACKGROUND At the September 9, 2013meeting, City Council awarded the2013 Surface Water Management Projectto C.W. Houle.Construction began in September and is nearly complete. It was discussed at the City Council meeting awarding the contract that the project was projected to come in significantly under budget and that staff would identify an addition project area for City Council consideration. An additional project area has been identified as the ditch and culvert along the north side of Birch Street from Deerwood Lane to 600 feet east. The ditch in this area needs to be cleaned out and the culvert under Deerwood Lane needs to be replaced. Currently, this section of trail floods each spring to the point that the City has to close it down for public use. The proposed improvements are intended to alleviate this issue so that any flooding will be minimized in the future. The contractor for our current project has reviewed the prepared plans and presented a change order in the amount of $23,950 to complete this work. Financing for this project as originally proposed is still sufficient with the proposed change order.
