IINGI KE
DATE : October 7, 2020
TO : Park Board Members
FROM : Rick DeGardner, Public Services Director
RE : Birch Park - Girl Scouts Kindness Mail Box
Girl Scout Troop 56277, a troop of 61h graders from Centennial Middle School, recently contacted
city staff to request constructing and installing a Kindness Mail Box at Birch Park. This project
would fulfill their requirements of achieving the Bronze Award .
A Kindness Mailbox is similar to the Little Free Library concept where people can take or add
things in order to brighten someone's day. Items found in the mailbox could be cards, sayings,
pictures, painted rocks, bookmarks, etc.
The approximate size of the Kindness Mailbox is 24" W x 19" H x 13" D. The mailbox will be made
from solid pine/aspen . The roof and shingles are plywood for weather and durability. The mailbox
will be mounted to a 44 stained , treated post.
One of the troop members will be assigned to monitor the mailbox monthly. This means filling it,
repairing it ( if needed ), etc.
The Kindness Mailbox will be located near the open air shelter at Birch Park.
tit
