21. Our Variance Narrative: 842 Lois Lane <br />My wife Maggie & I purchased the property in the summer of <br />1991. The 15t owner built it in 1987. The 15t owner added 2 decks to the <br />house, without pulling permits it appears, between 1987 & 1991. Both <br />decks were present when we bought the house as 2►,d owners in 1991. <br />The East deck (the one in question) was originally about 9' off the <br />house, putting it about one foot off the property line towards the north <br />side of the house. The property line moves away from the house as it <br />moves South, towards the back of the property, as the house appears <br />to have been built slightly off parallel to the property line. <br />In addition, our neighbors house to the East, and our house are <br />the two closest to each other houses on our street. Both said to have <br />been built by the same builder, 1 year apart. I believe the neighbors <br />house is closer to the property line than we are. Fwiw. <br />Our current neighbor is fine with our existing deck dimensions <br />and has never objected. Our previous 2 neighbors never objected. <br />The current deck in question has existed since the late 801s with <br />no issues or objections &has been used in a reasonable manner. <br />Our ask® <br />We seek a variance basically to allow us to reasonably keep what <br />we currently have &have had. Which is less than what we started with <br />in 1991 but does not comply with the 5' normal variance. We are asking <br />for 2 % feet. <br />The practical difficulty of anything less than current renders the <br />deck much less useful than what we have known &enjoyed, to date. <br />Respectfully submitted; Brian &Maggie Rydlund <br />
