RESOLUTION of the VILLAGE of LINO LAKES Urging the Selection of a Site Within Anoka County for the New Minnesota Zoological Garden WHEREAS, the 1969 Session of the Minnesota State Legislature saw fit to provide for the creation of a Minnesota zoological garden; and WHEREAS, the site selection committee is currently considering several locations for said zoological garden; and WHEREAS, several locations exist within Anoka County which meet the criteria for such a state zoological garden to a greater extent than any other part of the Metropolitan Area. Those criteria are: 1) Anoka County is much closer to the center of population of the whole state than any other part of the Metropolitan Area, and this is to be a state garden; 2) there is a large amount of undeveloped land around several of the possible sites within Anoka County, thus, assuring the availability of future expansion; 3) the highway system within Anoka County would assure easy access to the citizens from the Metropolitan Area as well as those from outstate; 4) the well developed sewer systems within Anoka County could be adapted to satisfy the needs generated by the creation and operation of the new garden, thus, holding down an initial large capital expense; 5) the varying topography of Anoka County satisfies the diversified purposes for which the garden will be used. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Village of Lino Lakes does hereby urge the state zoological board, the site selection committee, the Metropolitan Council, and any other official body whose consideration will affect the location of the new Minnesota zoological garden to look favorably on a site within Anoka County for the creation and operation of the new Minnesota zoological garden.
