Police/Firefighter Position Update — Public Safety Director Swenson provided a <br />14 review of discussion on the position of police/firefighter. The City can create positions <br />15 but labor representation has a role also. The positon was included in the recent two year <br />16 labor contract settlement. Keeping department personnel informed has been an important <br />17 element, including a recent Zoom meeting where options were explained. Based on how <br />18 things move forward in that area, there will be additional review and discussion on moving <br />19 forward with fire service delivery. He reviewed the personnel numbers for firefighters <br />20 and police officers. <br />21 <br />22 Councilmember Lyden asked how many cross trained staff (police and fire) are needed? <br />23 Director Swenson explained that those personnel are needed mainly during the daytime <br />24 hours; approximately 50% of service calls come during those daytime hours. <br />25 <br />26 Councilmember Cavegn asked how many responses have been received at this point and <br />27 Director Swenson said that type of information has been deliberately directed to the <br />28 Human Resources Manager. <br />29 <br />30 Councilmember Ruhland discussed scheduling with Director Swenson. It was clarified <br />31 that the department is still following the "platooning" plan to minimize contact (COVID). <br />32 <br />33 Councilmember Stoesz asked if the department is seeing any individuals coming from the <br />34 inner city area (wanting to work outside of Minneapolis) and Director Swenson explained <br />35 that some of that occurred earlier in the year. <br />36 <br />37 2. Review Regular Agenda of January 25, 2021 <br />38 <br />39 Item 3A — Lease with New Creations — Administrator Cotton explained that there are <br />40 several New Creations facilities throughout the area and they as an entity are moving <br />41 toward bringing the facilities under one position.
