Centennial Fire District
7741 Lake Drive
Lino Lakes, MN 55014
784-7472
November 18, 1994
Marty Asleson
Parks Director
City of Lino Lakes
1189 Main St.
Lino Lakes, MN 55014
Dear Marty,
You have asked me to address the arson problem in parks. I did some research and my findings
are as follows:
1. The largest arson problem in the State of Minnesota is with residential
property, accounting for 50% of all arson fires.
2. Although arson is on the increase, which is partially do to better reporting, it
does not appear to be on the increase in parks or grassland areas.
3. In our own experience we have had only one arson fire, that has damaged a
park building.
4. We have had some additional fires in the portable toilets, but not more than two
in the last five years.
5. The source of my findings are from the Minnesota State Fire Marshal's office
and our own records.
In summary, I don't feel that a park or athletic field presents any greater arson or fire risk than any
other use of property.
Sincerely,
,n XL-04
Milo Bennett
Fire Chief
