1.
AGENDA ITEM
STAFF ORIGINATOR Marty Asleson
DATE July 8, 1993
TOPIC M-6, Lamotte Park Update
v{?1rtliRX3'lAl!!1':RJwi}}{'::4v v:•':L.ii•Y
Please see attached information from the April 28, meeting.
The decision that was made at the last Park Board meeting was to
set up a meeting with the neighborhood, to try to discuss the
perceived problems with the use of the park by youth in the
neighborhood, and to try to come up with some solution to the
problems.
Please see the attached letter that was drafted and sent to the
neighborhood. A meeting was held on June 3rd. There were several
adult residents and few youth at the meeting. A spectrum of
opinions and comments were given at the meeting. I think the one
opinion that may have been more common than not was that of
providing alternative opportunity in this park for the youth to
use, such as a volleyball net. Most agreed the park was a mini
park and had limited use. I felt that one resident was extremely
vocal and at times intimidating. I received a call from one of the
residents concerning this and may be one of the reasons for a
perceived lack of concern in some instances. The resident that was
vocal did state that he had been a resident for 26 years and that
the park was promised to be left an open and undeveloped area. I
stated that neighborhoods and ideas change over time, especially in
parks and recreation.
A survey was drafted and Board member Jacquelyn Farm ran it
through the neighborhood the next weekend. The results are
included with this report.
1. Develop park appropriately. This could be phased in. This was
listed as a priority 19 in our comprehensive plan. We have
limited funds in dedicated parks and nothing in capital outlay
for 1993. Perhaps a volley ball court could be added for a
ti couple of hundred dollars, and some additional plantings
established in spring 1994 shallsuffice for right now. We are
doing our best to groom the park in 1993. It has been wet and
unaccessible at times to equipment.
