April 6, 1993
Dear Mayor Reinert and City Council Members,
At the Park Board meeting last night, the board made a
recommendation that I draft a letter to you requesting monies be
taken from the Dedicated Park Fund to meet the short term goals and
priorities that were established at a recent work session. These
goals and expenditures are (in priority order) :
A. Up to but not to exceed $18,000 for improvements and
equipment to Sunset Oaks Park on Leonard and Bradley
Avenues
B. Up to but not to exceed $4000 for a master plan design for
Country Lakes Park
C. Up to but not to exceed $18, 000 for a mini park in the So.
Baldwin Lake area (identified as park N-14 in the
Comprehensive Park Plan )
D. Another short term goal that is a high priority, is the
need to pave the remaining unpaved trails from past
developments and to pave those trails that are to be put in
developments now underway . The funding needed for this
work is $20,000.
The board also requested that I relate to you their priority to
purchase land in the Holly and 12th Avenue area (A-3 in the
Comprehensive Park Plan) for the future development of a larger
athletic complex type park. They made a motion to recommend to you
that the park board take the initiative to negotiate with the
Whitcomb family for the possible purchase of 50+ acres at todays
prices, with the possibility of mutually agreeable long term
financing.
I ask that you please consider these expenditures from the
Dedicated Park Fund at your upcoming work session on Wednesday,
April 7th.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Marty Asleson
Parks, Recreation and Forestry Coordinator
