S-
3490 Lexington Avenue North
St. Paul,MN 55126
League of Minnesota Cities (612)490-5600
April 23, 1993
Martin Asleson
Park and Recreation Department
1189 Main Street
Lino Lakes, MN 55014-2123
Dear Mr. Asleson:
I am enclosing several sample ordinances on prohibiting
certain activities in parks and ordinances that give a park
superintendent the authority to adopt and enforce rules for
park activities (LMC 480A, 480B1, Ord. ) .
Specifically I understand you were seeking ordinance
language that would prevent playing baseball in certain
parks. You have one park that is quite small that may not be
suitable for the game. This objective is accomplished in the
samples I found by restricting the game to designated playing
areas only. If the park does not have a baseball diamond,
play would not be allowed. This serves legitimate safety
concerns for all users of the park.
If the small park has a diamond but the city now feels
it is unsuitable, it can be removed and the area re-sodded
for other uses.
I hope these items are helpful. Please call if I can
be of further assistance.
Sincerely,
eannette Bach
Asst. Research Director
Encl:
