TO: Lino Lakes Park Board Members
FROM: Don Volk, Director of Public Works
SUBJECT: LaMotte Park Proposal
I would hope to give the Park Board members some ideas
to take . into consideration on the current subdivision proposal.
Something to keep in mind before making a switch in park land is
what types of facilities and activities the City would plan on.
For example, in its present state a neighborhood pick-up ball game
could take place in the park. The proposed .land swap would make the
property too small for a ballfield. However, two modern ballfields
are one block away in the Centerville park. Some other activities the
Park Board may consider are Volleyball courts, ($1,200.00 each)
Horseshoe pits, ($100.00 each) Tot Lot Play structures, ($10,000.00
Starting Set) Ice Rink,, ($1,000.00, well '$5,000.00) Tennis Courts,
($14,000.00) etc. Any of= these activities would fit into either
the . present park land -or the proposed. Another' consideration;.
should more development take place in the area?, Some type of park
development maybe warranted.
The developers proposal to switch park land, if feasible, would
provide him with 2 more buildable lots, making the total number
of lots ' 15. Developers park dedication fees would be $2,400.00
However, my recommendation, awould be „to,; negotiate, some type of park
development in addition to dedication fees. My feeling is that
the developer could afford to spend or donate an additional $10,000.00
or so, being he would be gaining two buildable lots, by switching
park land.
These are some things for the Park Board, to consider; I 'm sure members
othe Park Board may have similar thoughts.
