City of Lino Lakes
Trails Committee
8/15/96
The 8/15/96 meeting was started by Marty Asleson (Park, Recreation, and Forestry Coordinator).
In attendance was Ken Johnson, Kurt Rausch, and Laura Wolf. Jodi Budde, Ted Brausen, and
George Lindy did not attend the meeting.
Marty discussed the Committee's organization. The member's terms will be three years with the
terms initially being staggered e.g. one year, two year, and three year terms. Marty proposed
distribution of responsibilities to the members of the trail's committee. He would like to have
liaisons to the park board and the Anoka Parks. There should also be committee members
involved in grants and legislative actions that could impact trails development.
Someone would also have to be a record keeper of the meetings.
Marty gave background information on the present trail system. Presently there is 9 miles of
bituminous trails. A brief revue of the current trail dedication ordinance was done.
Identification of future major issues was another area Marty thought the committee members
-- should think about for the next meeting. Some of the issues the members may want to consider
are developing trail maps for the current system, maintenance and upgrade of the trail system,
safety issues, collaborative opportunities with state, county, and local organizations for funding
and development of trails, reviewing the current comprehensive plan, and public information
regarding trails.
A mission statement, goals, and objectives for the trail committee will have to be developed. A
park comprehensive plan review could also be done.
Before the next meeting, Marty will contact the state engineer regarding roads upgrades that may
provide opportunities to provide corridors to different sections of Lino Lakes. Laura will contact
members of trail committees from other cities in order to better formulate our role in the
development of trails in Lino Lakes. Marty will contact the other members of the group prior to
the next meeting. Decisions for goals, liaisons, terms, etc. were delayed until the next meeting
when more members will be present.
The next meting will be scheduled September 24, 1996 at 6:30 PM at the Parks and Recreation
Building.
