Friends of the Lino Lakes Parks Foundation
Tues., April 16, 1996 7:00 PM
Lino Lakes City Hall
Meeting Minutes
Called meeting to order at 7:15
Attendees: Barry Bernstein, Georgia Herrick,Betty Piper, Martha Walmsley
Laurie Mazanec of Birchwood Acres presented a completed grant application to the board for
Birchwood Acres Park. She requested matching funds for the $910 the neighborhood raised.
She also reported that the neighborhood is continuing to raise money and would like to request
further matching funds at a later date. The park plan has not yet been reviewed by the Park
Board, but as soon as the plan is approved Marty wants to order the playground equipment. The
board interpreted the$2000 cap on grant amounts to be per project, not per request. So the
Birchwood Acres neighborhood group can continue to request matching funds until they reach a
cumulative total of$2000. However, they must reapply for each incremental amount. Laurie
told us that the checks are written out to Friends of the Parks, but are nearly a year old. After she
left, the board agreed to match the funds,up to$910, contingent on Park Board approval of the
park plan. However, because the checks are stale, the actual grant awarded will be equal to the
amount of the checks that clear(less any fees incurred).
Jacquelyne Farm,Bill Frogner and Diane Jensen were reappointed to the board for another term
by Mayor John Landers at the March 25, 1996 city council meeting.
On behalf of the board, on March 21 Barry and Jacquelyn accepted a$1000 grant from Target
for Performances in the Parks. Barry announced that he was able to reserve Bob and all the
Beachcombers on July 14 and that the performance will be sponsored by Target.
We are almost out of brochures and need to get more printed. Barry will talk to Gail Todora to
see whether se still has an electronic copy of the old brochure and will also check if the photo is
still available. Georgia will pull together the changes that have been suggested so far. We will
go with whatever we have after the next meeting.
Martha talked to Tom Farm and clarified the question about when receipts are required on items
we sell. Tom said that when we sell an item, the purchaser is entitled to a receipt only for the
amount paid above market price. So no receipts are required for the tree sale unless someone
makes a donation on top of the sales price.
Kite Day (June 1 9:00-12:00) will be coordinated through the Park and Rec. Department.
Earth Day is April 20. Jacquelyn will hand out popcorn and sell t-shirts. The board agreed to
lower the priced of t-shirts to $12.
