5A.
ME 40RANDUM
Date: February 26, 1996
From: Marty Asleson
To: Lino Lakes Park and Recreation Board
Subject: Grants
There are presently two grants that have been applied for, and
one preapplication that is due in April 15 .
The first grant, another preapplication is the State Outdoor
Recreation Grant. Last year we submitted this grant application
for our A-3 Athletic Complex. I re-submitted the same
preapplication for this proposal . The grant itself will be
modified in response to discussions with the Natural Resources
Grant Manager for this area. No money has been appropriated yet
for this grant program. We should know more about this after the
preapplications are received.
The second proposal submitted was a LCMR, (Legislative Commission
on Minnesota Resources) grant proposal . This proposals a
cooperative proposal for a greenway from the state trail in Hugo,
following Clearwater Creek to the south through Hugo, Lino Lakes
and Centerville, and into the Rice Creek Chain of Lakes regional
Park. This would make a connection into the Rice Creek Regional
Trail (a Metropolitan Council Trail Corridor) . This grant
proposal has strong possibilities .
The third grant is for a trail connection on the west side of
Lake Drive and Elm Street as part of the new school need. Safety
and a crossing point along Lake Drive to the school was addressed
at the last Park Board meeting. We would like to work with the
School District on cost matching their dollars for these trail
segments .
Please find the grant submittal for these programs . I will bring
some illustrative maps to the Park Board meeting.
