City of Lino Lakes Park Board Meeting February 5, 1996 Marty explained this was an update for the boards review. He said staff is looking for input and support for particu- larly the inside sport/recreation facilities . Although this site is not alluded to in our comprehensive plan, and there is no need from a park land standard sense, the elements in the plan do compliment and remove some of the pressures for some badly needed recreation facilities . He recommended support for this joint use opportunity. There were questions about the treed area on the property, discussion that Elm Street is going to be an exit only onto Lake Drive, and when ground breaking would be if the school was going to be open for the 1997 school year. George and the Park Board were in agreement that the con- tract, for Birch Street Elementary School, be similar to Ar- ticle 3 of the Rice Creek School agreement with at least 1 gym facility. Recreation Programs: Barry explained the indoor activities are going well but with the winter weather the outdoor pro- grams are suffering. He told the board that the spring brochure will be coming out the first week of March. Barry mentioned the Park, Recreation, Forestry, and Recy- cling building has a new phone system and our new phone num- ber is 780-1885 . Friends of the Park Update: Betty gave an update on the Friends of the Park golf tournament scheduled for August 10 . She reported that there are aggressive people working on getting golfers . There has also been a committee formed to do press releases and the Lions Club has taken the lead to do what they can to make this work. The committee is seek- ing volunteers and she hopes several members from the Park Board will become involved. Gary Uhde has given a donation and this will be used to do the brochure . The brochure has been designed and will be going out soon. 6
