NOU 26'96 12: 1'7 FR REELL PRECISION MFG 612 484 .e,6 7 TO 1,_4 7 r P.01
To: Martv Aslesen George Lindy Paul Montain Date: Nov. 26, 199b
Pam Taschuk Joe Schmidt Betty Piper
Amy Donlin
From Sharon Lane
Dear Marty and fellow Park Board Members,
I will not be able to attend the Park Board meeting of Dec. 2, 1996. Therefore, I am offering my thoughts and input
regarding some of our agenda items.
Item No. 8, Birchwood/Park Grove Park issues:
Basketball Court - I would support Half-Court Basketball, provided there is a good location for it.
Volleyball Court - I also support this.
Moving backstop - I would NOT support proving the back-stop. The. location of the backstop was discussed at
length, and we considered many factors. I see no reason to re-hash this.
Skinned vs. Unskinned infield - l suggest we do NOT skin the infield. There is not adequate parking to
accommodate what would surely be it larger draw to a skinned infield, and therefore may deter neighborhood
residents from using this. We can discuss this issue again in the future when the park has matured and we have
some information on how the field is being used. Skinning the infield can be done at some later date if we
decide to do so.
Also, I would like to offer-my thoughts on the playground location, even though it is not listed specifically on
our Agenda. I have received calls and letters (as have the rest of you) regarding concern about the playground
location. Again, this location is something we discussed at length, and took many factors into consideration. I
would not recommending moving it, but perhaps we can do some clearing to improve visibility and make it feel
less secluded.
Item No. 4, Proposed Time Limit Discussion:
I strongly support a time limit. I also ask that once an individual has stated their position on a particular issue,
they do not corne back up for more comments, because all this does is result in a"rebuttal" and debate between
2 or more opposing audience members. We have seen this go on for hours at our previous meetings. I think by
k_ allowing this, we (the Park Board) have unwittingly contrihuted to division and ill feelings in a neighborhood,
because we have provided a forum for folks to argue and verbally attack one another.
Item No. 7, City Survey
Because I knew I would be absent for this meeting, I attended the Nov. 215 Council meeting where Mr. Morris
of Decision Resources presented the Survey results. 'I l;is Survey gives us much needed guidance for future
decisions and direction, and I am so grateful to have this information. One thing I want to mention in particular
is the City Newsletter. I want thank our Staff who have done such a great job with this. According to Mr.
Morris, it is absolutely incredible how well our newsletter is being read, and used, by our residents. Our
Recreational section is a large part of this Newsletter. Congratulations to Barry, Marty, Sandy, and everyone
who have made this such a success.
Happy Thanksgiving to everyone. I will see you in 97, unless we have a need to meet before then!
