There are 400+adults who signed petitions which lists what their priorities are for this park. There is a much smaller
group of people who want different things for this park. They are concerned about all of the issues that are a part of
a successful park including noise, traffic and people. However, they were aware of the location of the park when they
purchased their property. To complain about it now seems ridiculous to us. We believe that the people that are
adjacent to the park should be consulted regarding how to best resolve issues of noise, traffic and people, but the
majority should rule as to what should be included in the park.
The people who live adjacent to this park seem to favor the characteristics of rural living, however, everyone on both
sides of this issue chose to live in a community which has bike paths that run through backyards;houses that are 30
feet from each other and an average of two or three kids per household. If you look at other neighborhoods that
resemble ours, you will see parks, that are similar to the park, 400+people petitioned for here. Shoreview, for example,
has a couple parks(Bucher and McCullough)that we enjoy very much. They offer lots of the amenities our 400+
rnAiority wants in our park and they fit in very nicely with their neighborhoods.
Let's make sure that we don't make mistakes limiting park development and access to our new park because we are
afraid people will use it. We have been waiting several years to use it!
Sincerely,
Kelley and Larry Swangstue
cc: Mayor,John Landers
cc: Sharon Lane
cc:Joe Schmidt
cc:Paul Montain
cc: Betty Piper
cc: Amy Donlan
cc: Pam Taschuk
cc:Editor,The Quad Press
