COUNCIL MINUTES April 13, 1998
Mr. Ahrens noted that awarding the bid at next Council meeting instead of tonight will not delay
construction. He had added a cost analysis to their packets and they were $50,000 lower than
expected.
Council Member Bergeson asked why the bids were in the $1.4 million range and the total came
in at $1.7 million. Mr. Ahrens explained that the $1.4 million figure was the construction cost
and the $1.7 million was the total project cost, which included engineering, consultant, and
administration fees, basically the overhead to administer the project.
Council Member Lyden asked if State Aid would be available after this project. Mr. Ahrens
stated that $1,113,000 was currently available, $53,000 over the estimate. Last year the City
received $390,000. With a brand new Ware Road, the annual allotment would be approximately
$350,000.
Council Member Neal asked if there would be any change orders needed for this project. Mr.
Ahrens said that the issue of change orders had been addressed so, hopefully, they would not
need any.
Council Member Bergeson moved to adopt Resolution No. 98 -48, as presented. Council
Member Lyden seconded the motion. Motion carried unanimously.
Resolution No. 98 -48 can be found at the end of these minutes.
Consideration of Resolution No. 98 -49,Accept Bids and Award Construction Contract,
Town Center Parkway, Phase 2-Mr. Ahrens explained that sealed bids were received and
opened on Friday April 3, 1998 for the Street and Utility construction associated with Phase 2 of
the Town Center Parkway project. City Council action is required to award aconstruction
contract to the lowest responsible bidder.
Mr. Ahrens continued stating the City Council ordered the improvement at the February 23,
1998, Council Meeting. On April 3, 1998, eight sealed bids were received and opened with the
following results:
S. R. Weidema,Inc. $229,592.00
W. B. Miller $239,041.95
Ryan Contracting $245,057.10
Northdale Construction $255,664,24
Kadlec Excavating $266,742.53
Kober Excavating $271,027.14
Penn Contracting $286,908.00
Engineer's Estimate $298,758.00
15
