COUNCIL MINUTES JANUARY 12, 1998 <br /> n CITY OF LINO LAKES <br /> MINUTES <br /> DATE : January 12, 1998 <br /> TIME STARTED : 6:35 P.M. <br /> TIME ENDED : 7:38 P.M. <br /> MEMBERS PRESENT : Bergeson, Lyden, Dahl, Sullivan <br /> MEMBERS ABSENT : Neal <br /> Staff members present: City Administrator, Randy Schumacher; City Attorney, Bill Hawkins; <br /> City Engineer, David Ahrens; Community Development Director, Brian Wessel; Chief of Police, <br /> David Pecchia; Assistant to City Administrator, Dan Tesch; Building Official, Pete Kluegel; and <br /> Clerk-Treasurer, Marilyn Anderson. <br /> OATH OF OFFICE <br /> Prior to calling the meeting to order, City Attorney Hawkins administered the oath of office to <br /> Mayor Kimberly A. Sullivan, Council Member Caroline Dahl, and Council Member John <br /> Bergeson. <br /> MAYOR SULLIVAN'S ADDRESS TO THE CITY COUNCIL AND THE CITY <br /> Mayor Sullivan addressed Council and the City of Lino Lakes, welcoming and wishing those in <br /> attendance a happy new year. She indicated that a number of exciting projects are forthcoming, <br /> and that significant progress on a couple of issues is needed in 1998. Mayor Sullivan mentioned <br /> the expansion of the Lino Lakes Police Department, which might result in opportunities to offer <br /> additional policing services. Additionally, she mentioned that the Circle-Lex Police Department <br /> is without a police chief as of January 1, 1998, which might also present opportunities to the <br /> Lino Lakes PoliceDepartment. Economic Development, including the Town Center and <br /> Comprehensive Plan anticipated to be completed in 1998, present numerous opportunities for <br /> citizens to become directly involved in the future of their community, continued Mayor Sullivan. <br /> In conjunction with the Comprehensive Plan is the environmental survey, which Mayor Sullivan <br /> indicated is key to the Comprehensive Plan. She added that until that survey.is completed within <br /> the next two years,the community must find a way to ensure environmental integrity of the City. <br /> Another issue of importance is a possible park referendum this Spring. Mayor Sullivan <br /> encouraged the public to make themselves aware of upcoming issues and participate in whatever <br /> areas they find to be of the most importance and interest to them. <br /> Mayor Sullivan stated that the five members of the Council have been elected by the residents of <br /> the City, and that Council, together with the capable City Staff and citizens, will deal with all of <br /> the issues enumerated above. All issues will be addressed in a manner consistent with the 20/20 <br /> Vision, and a concerted effort will be made to improve communication with the public. Mayor <br /> Sullivan suggested that the first step for anyone wishing to broach a community issue is to <br /> contact Staff at City Hall,who is available five days a week to assist the citizenry. She invited <br /> all to attend any Council work session or formal meeting, and added that each Council member <br /> 1 <br />
