COUNCIL MINUTES MAY 26, 1998 <br /> Council Member Lyden moved to authorize Staff to advertise for bids on the new playground <br /> equipment projects. Council Member Neal seconded the motion. Motion carried unanimously. <br /> Consideration of Authorization to Hire Park Maintenance Position -Mr. DeGardner stated <br /> that applications for the General Maintenance Worker, Parks Department, position were accepted <br /> through April 20, 1998. Sixty-seven applications were submitted. <br /> All applications were rated on criteria such as nursery or forestry experience, turf maintenance <br /> experience, post high school accreditation in nursery or forestry management, as well as training <br /> or experience in areas such as carpentry, small engine repair, irrigation installation and repair, <br /> concrete installation, landscaping, and welding. The top eleven candidates were given first <br /> interviews on May 5 and May 6, 1998,by a panel consisting of Mike Hoffinan, Barry Bernstein, <br /> and Tim Hillesheim. Following each oral interview, each candidate was asked to complete a <br /> written test which covered various areas such as building maintenance, construction, <br /> landscaping, forestry, fertilizer and pesticides, and equipment maintenance and operations. <br /> Three (3) finalists were invited back for a second interview by Dan Tesch and Mr. DeGardner on <br /> May 12, 1998. The finalists were determined based on ratings from the oral interview and the <br /> written exam. Mr. DeGardner stated that he determined that Mr. Tim Anderson is the most <br /> qualified and would best fit the City's needs. Mr. Anderson has worked for the Ramsey County <br /> Parks and Recreation Department for the past thirteen years. He has extensive training on a wide <br /> variety of equipment. <br /> Mr. DeGardner said that the position provides for a beginning salary of$12.97/hour plus <br /> benefits. The position would be eligible for membership in the 49'ers Union. Mr. Anderson is <br /> available to begin work on June 1, 1998. <br /> Council Member Neal asked if this was a full-time position. Mr. DeGardner indicated that the <br /> position is full-time. <br /> Council Member Bergeson moved to approve Mr. Anderson as General Maintenance Parks <br /> position. Council Member Lyden seconded the motion. Motion carried unanimously. <br /> CITY ENGINEER'S REPORT,DAVID AHRENS <br /> Consideration of Resolution No. 98 - 70, Receive Bids and Award Construction Contract, <br /> 1998, Sealcoat Project-Mr. Ahrens stated that the City Council ordered the improvement for <br /> the 1998 Sealcoat Project at the April 27, 1998, Council meeting. On May 19, 1998, two sealed <br /> bids were received and opened with the following results: <br /> Allied Blacktop Company $55,912.50 <br /> Asphalt Surface Technologies Corporation $61,312.50 <br /> Engineer's estimate $75,000.00 <br /> 14 <br />
