q4
Lino Lakes Parks and Recreation Department
n 7204 Lake Drive
O F M

Lino Lakes, N 55014
C I TY' (651) 780-1885 Fax (651) 784-7227
LlNon
June 1, 1999
TO: Park Board Members
FROM: Mike Hoffinan, Parks Supervisor
SUBJECT: May Park Maintenance Update
WANTED: Shepherd, Sheep Dog and flock of 15-20 sheep to perform mowing and
trimming of city parks.
Just kidding!!!
No doubt some of you have noticed some of our parks look more like hay fields than park areas.
I apologize, but, with the number of park improvement projects currently underway, as well as a
lack of seasonal employees, we have been unable to keep up with the mowing. Once school lets
out and our seasonals begin,we will get caught up with the mowing, trimming, and garbage
pickup that we have been neglecting.
Maintenance Highlight for May
• Planting of shade trees at Sunrise, Birchwood Acres, Shenandoah, and Birch Parks.
40 bare root trees were planted at above mentioned parks primarily around new
playground equipment and Sunrise Field#3.
• Completion of improvements to Sunrise Little League Fields #3 and#4.
• Site preparation and installation of Marshan Park Playground. Site was excavated to
a 12"depth using our new Case 85XT with steel tracks. This machine performed
beyond our expectations and is a valuable addition to our equipment fleet.
Playground support posts were installed Friday,May 21 by maintenance staff and a
certified playground installer. On Saturday, May 22 maintenance staff, neighborhood
volunteers and installer hung decks and play events. Kid timbers have been installed
and resilient surfacing should be installed the first week of June. Some items for this
playground are on backorder and will be installed as they arrive.
• Daily ballfied maintenance and preparation- We are currently game prepping 10-12
ballfields daily. This is a 6-8 hour process Monday—Thursday and is currently being
done by full-time maintenance staff. Once our seasonals begin one or two of them
will be trained in field preparation, allowing our full-time employees to work on other
proj ects.
• Soccer field preparation—Hanging nets, field layout, mowing and painting in-lines.
