.^
We have discussed the possibilities of a Municipal Golf Course to
offset costs for capital projects in the future. (Staff is still
working on this.) One new approach might be to form a Community
Foundation whereby funds could be funneled into philanthropic
causes. Please find enclosed the latest copy of the Giving Forum
from the Minnesota Council on foundations. It describes how this
might happen.
At any rate, I would like to open this up for discussion and state
that the small amount of money that is in the Park Dedication Fund
at this time will do very little to develop park land. I would
recommend the Park Board strongly consider the park land needs that
will be generated out of the Comprehensive Plan as a starting point
to build the framework of parks facilities.
We receive about $300.00 per month from the VFW at this time that
is earmarked for facilities. Please find enclosed a copy of a
letter that I have sent to them stating where the money has been
used in the past and where we would like to use it in the future.
Since we would like to have open skating using our natural ice at
Country Lakes Park, and wish to program summer activities here, I
,"ON felt that it might be appropriate to use their money here to get
power into the park for a temporary shelter, light the rink and
stub in general parking lot lighting. We also need to light Lino
Park and stub in service to the small shelter to this park.
I realize that you wish to discuss Capital Improvements/Budget
after the Comprehensive Park Plan is completed, but the VFW needed
immediate answers for auditing reasons.
Hopefully, this memo somewhat lays -out the issues that we are faced
with in Parks, Recreation and Forestry.
2
