,4
MEMORANDUM
TO: All Park Board Members
FROM: Marty Asleson
DATE: October 3, 1991
SUBJECT: Golf Course Agenda Item
One of the recurrent topics of discussion at the Comprehensive
Parks and Recreation Planning Committee meetings is that of looking
into the possibility of a Municipal Golf Course. There has been
much in the news lately concerning municipalities that have forged
forward, built the golf course facilities and have had substantial
returns on their money.
In these times of economic stress, we as staff are searching for
ways to even maintain status quo. Thus, staff placed the
feasibility market analysis money in the proposed 1992 budget to
start the process. These monies were cut out, not because it was a
bad idea, but because of lack of funds.
Please find enclosed a copy of the National Golf Federation's
Market Demand Study Overview and Feasibility Study Overview, and
cost break down. We are proposing that the Park Board use dedicated
dollars to run this study.
Also find enclosed some of the recent articles that have surfaced
in the newspapers. I will bring as much additional information as
I have to the meeting.
