J`t
Following are two tables that compare Lino Lakes to other
places. the first table compares the city to its neighbors.
From that we can see:
1. With the exception of Blaine NONE of the city's
neighbors has more than 2.5 percent of its total
area in industrial land uses. In fact, there is
little industrial land in the whole northeast
sector.
2. With the exception of Lexington, no place has more
than 2.0 percent of its land in commercial uses.
3. Lino Lakes, Columbus Township (Carlos Avery), and
White Bear Township (Ramsey County) have
extraordinary amounts of land in public and park
categories.
4. With the exception of Blaine there is little
industrial development in this area, i.e. the
possibility of spin-off industrial development is
low.
5. Please note, Blaine with almost 30,000 population,
a land area almost identical to Lino Lakes, and a
large shopping mall has only 1.6 percent of its
total area in commercial land uses.
6. With regard to Blaine, also note that more than ten
percent of its area is used for industrial
purposes. This reflects a policy decision of that
city to emphasize industrial development.
Historically it has used tax increment financing
and Industrial Development Bonds to help this
activity.
LAND USE IN LINO LAKES AND
ADJACENT PLACES BY PERCENTAGE, 1984
PLACE RESIDENTIAL INDUSTRIAL COMMERCIAL VACANT OTHER TOTAL
Lino Lakes
9.3
0.4
0.2
57.9
32.2
100.0
Circle Pines
39.5
0.4
1.2
43.2
15.7
100.0
Centerville
19.3
1.1
0.4
63.9
21.3
100.0
Columbus
Township
5.2
0.1
0.0
57.3
37.4
100.0
Lexington
69.9
0.0
8.0
12.9
9.2
100.0
rti
Page 11
