/11%k
DATE: January 30, 1991
TO: All Park Board Members
FROM: Marty Asleson, Supt. of Parks, Recreation and Forestry
RE: New Elementary School Park Concept
During the past month Parks Staff has met with the Landscape
Architect for Centennial School District's new facility off
of Birch Street . We worked up a plan that will be presented
at the next park board meeting. John McClellan, School
Superintendent will be there to present the idea and answer
questions.
Some of the questions that come to mind are that of
development responsibilities, scheduling and maintenance
responsibilities. From my research, there are not many
examples of written agreements to go by, however, there are
plenty of cooperative things being done. The City of New
Brighton, for instance, (and they are not too much different
from most cities) do the scheduling for all of the ballfields
in the City. Thus, there is only one phone call to make for a
reservation. The school districts generally do their own
development, and the city's usually help out with
maintenance, particularly such tasks as lining the ball
fields, dragging, aerifying and fertilizing.
The main point is that we need to use these facilities and
tie them into our developing Parks and Recreation programs.
Please bring your concerns and comments Monday night.
Thank you.
