CITY OF LINO LAKES
PARK BOARD MEETING
MOMAY, FEBRUARY 6, 1995
C. Forestry/Oakwilt Reforestation: Marty was going to show a
video but the video machine was broken. Marty talked about
oakwilt suppression. Since the State has initiated the
Cooperative Suppression Program in 1991 there has been almost a
half a million dollars in Federal suppression assistance put in
through the Department of Natural Resources, over 200 miles of
vibratory plow line has been put in, and over 700 infection
centers have been slated for 1995.
D. Trails/Inventory: Marty included a trail inventory update
memo in the packet. He said the inventory is now tied into
mapping coordinates so that there is an easy and understandable
method to inspect, and cost-track our existing system of
bituminous trails. He continued by saying we have also developed
a monthly inspection form as well as an inspection form for
mowing crews. Copies of these forms were included in the
packets. He continued by saying reserve officers are out looking
at the trails and are turning in report forms when they see a
problem. George asked what the mode of transportation was when
doing the monthly inspections. Marty said they will use the
Cushman or may use a bicycle in the future for some of the areas.
Marty said these inspection forms are need, in case there is an
incident we can review the files.
E. Playground Inspection Process: Marty said he was going to be
attending a MRPA Community Park Policing workshop with Council-
person Andy Neal on February 15.
Marty said he wasn't sure if some of the old playground equipment
conforms to the new consumer products standards. He said he is
in the process of training staff people how to do inspections.
An annual audit will be done and a report given to the Park
Board. He is going to continue a monthly inspection process that
is done the last Monday of each month. After the inspections are
done they will follow-up on problems that do exist.
George said we have to remember the increasing cost of
maintenance when doing funding because of the addition of new
equipment in the neighborhood parks.
F. Earth Day Celebration: Jackie Constant, Recycling
Coordinator, is co-chair of the Earth Day Committee this year.
There has been two meetings at the Wargo Nature Center to start
planning another celebration. The Earth Day Celebration will be
held on April 22 at the Wargo Nature Center and will be tied in
with the State' s 25th Great Minnesota Greenup.
8
