Brochure:
Barry led a discussion on the new brochure format. Based upon
the Recreation Focus Committee we needed to get more information
out to the public on our programs, especially during the school
year. Barry spoke with Dan Tesch, Administrative Assistant to
the City Administrator, on the topic of placing our publication
with the city newsletter. Within one day Dan called Barry back
and wanted 'to go forward with this idea of combining both
documents. Barry mentioned that the first eight pages will
encompass city news, then economic development, recycling and
then the Park and Recreation Program Guide. Barry said that some
of the advantages are cost and the opportunity to have more
publications sent out during the course of the year. Some of the
disadvantages are not being able to pick out the color of paper,
enclosed with other city news, and in the back of a document.
Barry showed the committee a copy of the brochure that will be
going out in the newsletter. Barry eluded to a few changes in
this document from past documents. First our mission statement
is on the front cover. Barry said that with the loss of four
pages everything looks cramped, but in the future this will be
looked at closer with more time. Barry does not think that our
information will not be lost. The printer is placing a solid
color along the outside edge of our document to differentiate
between publications. Barry said that the next document will go
out in March. Barry said with the new addition of Woods of
Baldwin Lake Park we had to hand draw this park. Barry said that
a new registration process is fax in registration. You are now
able to fax in your registration form` and make payment within two
working days
Barry introduced Ray Weber who is active in both this and Friends
of the Park Committee. Barry mentioned that Ray works for Target
Corporation. He was going to propose a grant to Target for the
possible funding of the Performances in the Park Program. Ray
explained what this grant from Target Cooperation is and the
criteria for sponsorship. Ray said the donations have to be made
through a non profit. Pam asked what Target store was this
coming from and Ray explained that this was coming out of the
distribution center. Pam asked if the funding was a calendar
year and Ray explained that it is a calendar year and also
earmarked for a certain program. Barry asked if the grant was
approved would it be approved for the summer month. Ray
explained how Target allocates money. Pam asked when Ray would
find out if this grant will be accepted. Ray explained that it
would only take a week to ten days from the time of being
submitted to finding out if this grant will be accepted.
Survey information:
Barry explained that during the budget workshop Council member
Sally Kuether mentioned that we should be brought into the
process of the Mayors 20/20 Vision plan. Barry explained that
this was a goal. Barry said that he was curious to find out how
much information will be on parks and recreation. Pam asked who
was sitting on this committee. Barry said that what he knew was
