Minutes from 11-21-95 Cooperative Adaptive Recreation Planning <br /> The members began by establishing 2 main Common Goals at this meeting. <br /> 1) To develop a common language 2) To create a "Vision" <br /> DEFINING RECREATION CONCEPTS <br /> What is Recreation? Recreation is ..... <br /> * anything a person chooses to do with their leisure time for the purpose of fun, <br /> relaxation, and socialization. <br /> * a positive outlet * renewing one's spirit * self-enrichment * self-actualization <br /> What is Disability? <br /> Persons having difficulty with their level of function in one or more of the <br /> following areas: Physical <br /> Emotional <br /> Cognitive <br /> Our Operational Vision <br /> To provide recreational opportunities in compliance with the ADA. <br /> To facilitate bridges/ connections with area communities. <br /> ,-� To provide adequate accessibility to these Recreation Programs. <br /> 5year Operational Goal - INCLUSION <br /> Anything that is available to the general pwulation will be made <br /> available to persons with disabilities <br /> KEY-- Gradual approach based on individuals' choice and/ or if safety is an <br /> issue. Offer programs specifically designed for persons with special needs. <br /> TARGET POPULATION <br /> * Potential to serve all ages <br /> * Conduct Survey to define greatest need <br /> * Possibly serve young adults and Middle School Youth <br /> Types of programs discussed <br /> * Support Groups <br /> * Inclusion vs. Separate Programs <br /> * Integration with non-disabled participants <br /> ADAPTIVE / INCLUSIVE <br /> Specialized programs if disability prevents the individual from obtaining an <br /> adequate level of participation cif attending would be hazardous to the health <br /> of him or herself or other participants. <br /> TYPES OF PROGRAMS TO OFFER <br />
