CITY COUNCIL <br />AGENDA ITEM 5C <br />STAFF ORIGINATOR: Rick DeGardner, Public Services Director <br />MEETING DATE: September 13, 2021 <br />TOPIC: Consider Resolution 21-945 Naming Parlc at Centerville Road and <br />Birch Street and Consider Renaming Current City Hall Park <br />VOTE REQUIRED: 3/5 <br />INTRODUCTION <br />The Council is being asked to determine the official name for the park area currently being <br />constructed at Centerville Road and Birch Street as well as consider renaming City Hall Park. <br />BACKGROUND <br />The Park Board created a process for naming the new park at Centerville Road and Birch Street <br />as well as considering the renaming of City all Park during the June, 2021 Park Board <br />meeting. The first survey produced 19 different name suggestions for Centerville Road/Birch <br />Street Park and eight different name suggestions for City Hall Park. During the August 4, 2021 <br />meeting, the Park Board decided to move forward with the following names for the final <br />feedback survey: <br />Centerville Road &Birch Street Park (1750 Birch Street) <br />• Tower Park <br />• Blue Heron Park <br />• Water Tower Park <br />City Hall Park (1189 Main Street) <br />• Old City Hall Park <br />• Main Street Park <br />There were 76 respondents. Approximately 50%voted for Tower Park, with Blue Heron Park <br />and Water Tower Parlc each around 25%. <br />An overwhelming majority (approximately 750/n) voted for Main Street Park, over Old City <br />Hall Park. <br />The following motions were presented during the September 1, 2021 Park Board meeting: <br />Bill Kusterman made a motion to recommend to the City Council that the park at Centerville <br />Road and Birch Street be officially named "Tower Park." Seconded by John Nordlund. Motion <br />passed 5-2 (Clark Gooder and Pat Huelman dissented). <br />Bill Kusterman made a motion to recommend to the City Council that the current City Hall <br />
