CITY COUNCIL <br />AGENDA ITEM 3A <br /> <br /> <br />STAFF ORIGINATOR: Meg Sawyer, Human Resources Manager <br /> <br />MEETING DATE: September 27, 2021 <br /> <br />TOPIC: Consider Appointment of Police Officer <br /> <br />VOTE REQUIRED: 3/5 <br /> <br /> <br />INTRODUCTION <br /> <br />The Council is being asked to approve the appointment of Shelby Bonczek to a vacant Police <br />Officer position in the Public Safety Department. <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br /> <br />There are currently three vacant Police Officer positions within the Public Safety Department. <br />At this time, staff has completed a recruitment process, provided a conditional offer, and is <br />recommending the approval of Shelby Bonczek for the position. <br /> <br />Shelby has a Bachelor’s Degree from University of Minnesota Duluth with major in <br />Criminology and a minor in Psychology. She has met all POST mandates. <br /> <br />The hourly rate of pay would be $35.85, which is the Starting Step of the union wage schedule. <br />The wage schedule has six steps. <br /> <br />With the Council’s approval, Shelby Bonczek would start in the position of Police Officer on <br />October 18, 2021. <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATION <br /> <br />Approve the appointment of Shelby Bonczek for the Police Officer position. <br /> <br /> <br />
