WS – Item #2 <br /> <br />WORK SESSION STAFF REPORT <br />Work Session Item No. 2 <br /> <br /> <br />Date: February 3, 2020 <br /> <br />To: City Council <br /> <br />From: Michael Grochala, Community Development Director <br /> <br />Re: Water System Manganese Update <br /> <br />Background <br />At the January 6, 2020 City Council work session staff presented the city’s public water system <br />manganese test results and background information on Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) <br />guidance values for safe drinking water. Subsequent to that meeting the City sent out advisory <br />letters to property owners and residents which included notice of a public informational meeting. <br />The public informational meeting was held on January 22, 2020 where the City and MDH <br />representatives presented information on the manganese levels and recommended actions. The <br />meeting was well attended by approximately 50 people. <br />The city presented short-, mid-, and long-term solutions to address the levels of manganese in the <br />city’s municipal water supply. The long term solution is to consider a Water Treatment Plant. It <br />is recommend that the city complete a Water Supply and Treatment Feasibility Study. City is <br />staff is working with WSB and Associates to establish a project scope for the study. It is <br />anticipated that a proposal will be presented for City Council consideration in March. <br />Requested Council Direction <br />None required.
